March 28, 2008 Iraq is Undergoing a Cholera Epidemic
Iraq is undergoing a cholera epidemic, exacerbated by the failing sewer
system in the capital and excess of stagnant sewage polluting Baghdad and
much of the rest of the country. While security may be improving, there
seems to be little movement to improve access to basic necessities such
as clean water and electricity.
March 27, 2008 Clifford Stoll:
18 Minutes with an Agile Mind
Clifford Stoll could talk about the atmosphere of Jupiter. Or hunting KGB hackers.
Or Klein bottles, computers in classrooms, the future. But he's not going to.
Which is fine, because it would be criminal to confine a man with interests
as multifarious as Stoll's to give a talk on any one topic. Instead, he simply
his audience with a wildly energetic sprinkling of anecdotes, observations,
asides — and even a science experiment. After all, by his own definition, he's
a scientist: "Once
I do something, I want to do something else."

know I'm Hispanic,' " and then asked, "So is that part of what
he is ... cultivating here?" Giordano replied, "I think so."

March 19, 2008 Rod Parsley: McCain's
Anti-Gay "Spiritual Guide"
“A spiritual invasion is taking place!” shouted Rod Parsley
at the “War on Christians” conference in 2006. “… Man
your battle stations! Ready your weapons! Lock and load!” Parsley,
an Ohio megachurch pastor and televangelist, promised to build an army of “Patriot
Pastors” to march to the polls, an even bolder political machine than
the one he led in 2004 that helped pass an anti-gay amendment in the state
and nudge George W. Bush to reelection. Parsley’s 2006 candidate,
Ken Blackwell, ultimately lost the governor’s race, but the televangelist
remains an outsized political force, and his “Patriot Pastors” machine
is still a model for church-based electoral organizing—as demonstrated
by Mike Huckabee’s surprise win in Iowa. (read more here)

March 12, 2008 The Bush Debt: $7.7 Trillion
On March 11, lawmakers took to the Senate floor and blasted President Bush's
wasteful spending. To fully illustrate the impact, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse
brought up a chart showing the budget plans of President Clinton versus
the budget formulated by Bush. He concluded that by squandering Clinton's
government surplus, Bush has cost the country $7.7 trillion: This next
chart illustrates the value of the differences between the budget landscape
by President Clinton and the one created by President Bush. As you can
see, the difference between the two is a staggering $7.7 trillion. This
represents the fiscal harm that President Bush has inflected on our nation.
This number is the Bush debt. [...] Like most concepts of enormous size,
this amount takes some thought to comprehend. $7.7 trillion is $25,000
owed by every adult or child in the United States.
The federal budget
deficit is currently at "$87.7 billion so far this
budget year, double the $42.2 billion imbalance recorded during the same
period in 2007."

to create a "bloodbath" in America for its support of a two state
solution in Israel/Palestine. So what is it exactly that Hagee's said and
just how much has McCain cozied up to him? TPMtv put all the
choicest moments into one quick video so you could take a look and make
