Asteroid Impact
Between 2000 and 2013, a network of sensors that monitors Earth around the clock listening for the infrasound signature of nuclear detonations detected 26 explosions on Earth ranging in energy from 1 to 600 kilotons – all caused not by nuclear explosions, but rather by asteroid impacts. These findings were recently released from the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization, which operates the network.

Romain Segaud and Christel Pougeoise's CG short film TimTom pays tribute To stop-motion animation. TimTom was an official selection at Sundance and won a jury award at Siggraph and the grand prizes at Imagina and Ars Electronica, and it's easy to see why it has garnered such accolades. It uses the visuals associated with not just stop-motion animation, but also the media of film and sound to tell its story about two animated figures and the animator's hand that serves as their antagonist.

In a way Silent Storms shows how the night skies can be during the three seasons that there is darkness in northern arctic Scandinavia; autumn, winter and spring. GEOS-5: Aerosols
Through numerical experiments that simulate the dynamical and physical processes governing weather and climate variability of Earth's atmosphere, models create a dynamic portrait of our planet. This 10-kilometer global mesoscale simulation (Nature Run) using the NASA Goddard Earth Observing System Model (GEOS-5) explores the evolution of surface temperatures as the sun heats the Earth and fuels cloud formation in the tropics and along baroclinic zones; the presence of water vapor and precipitation within these global weather patterns; the dispersion of global aerosols from dust, biomass burning, fossil fuel emissions, and volcanoes; and the winds that transport these aerosols from the surface to upper-levels.

Sweating to the Surreal
Mariko Takahashi's Fitness Video for Being Appraised as an "Ex-fat Girl" (often referred to as Doggy Fitness or Poodle Fitness) is a short film by renowned art director and commercial film director Nagi Noda who has created spots for Nike and Coca Cola and starring Takahashi Mariko, a Japanese 2005 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships gymnast and jazz musician.. Exercising with her in the video are six actors dressed in dog costumes with actual live dogs' heads superimposed over their real heads. The film was created for Panasonic's Ten Short Movies -- Capture the Motion series for the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Erwin Schulz visited the Island of Hishima in 2013 with architectural photographer Andrew Meredith. The island was populated from 1887 to 1974 as a coal mining facility. Today, it is increasingly gaining international attention not only for its modern regional heritage, but also for the undisturbed housing complex remnants representative of the period from the Taisho period to the Showa period.
